What is Deduplication?
The process of identifying and merging duplicate records to maintain a single, accurate version of each entity in your database.
Duplicate records are a common data quality issue, especially after migrations or when multiple systems create records independently. Deduplication involves matching records (using email, phone, company name, or other criteria), deciding which record to keep as the master, and merging data from duplicates into the master record. Fuzzy matching helps identify near-duplicates with slight variations (e.g., 'IBM' vs 'I.B.M.' vs 'International Business Machines'). Regular deduplication is essential for accurate reporting and effective sales/marketing operations.
