What is Data Mapping?
The process of matching and connecting fields between two systems to define how data should be transferred and transformed.
Data mapping is essential for any integration. It defines which field in System A corresponds to which field in System B. For example, mapping HubSpot's 'Company Name' to an ERP's 'Account Name'. Mapping also includes transformations - converting date formats, translating status values, combining or splitting fields, and handling data types. Good data mapping documents field relationships, transformation rules, and how to handle missing or invalid data.
