What is Field Mapping?

Field mapping is the detailed work of matching every field you want to sync. A field mapping document typically includes: source field name, destination field name, data type, transformation rules (if any), and whether the mapping is bidirectional or one-way. Some mappings are straightforward (First Name to First Name), while others require transformation (combining First Name + Last Name into Full Name). Custom fields often require creating matching custom properties in both systems.
